Title: Modeling and Monitoring of a Hybrid Solid State Transformer (HSST)

Abstract: Hybrid solid-state transformer is an integration between the traditional line frequency transformer and a pure solid-state transformer to balance the cost and improve flexibility. In today’s talk, an overview of some recent progress related to the development of hybrid solid-state transformers will be presented and discussed. Particularly, this presentation will cover the modeling and monitoring system development of the hybrid solid-state transformer.

Biographies: Tianqi Hong received his Ph.D. degree from New York University in 2016. He is currently an Energy System Scientist with Argonne National Laboratory. His main research interests are power system analysis, power electronics systems, micro-grid, and electromagnetic design. Dongbo Zhao received his Ph.D. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is currently a Principal Energy System Scientist with Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL. He is also an Institute Fellow of Northwestern Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering of Northwestern University. His research interests include power system modeling and control, protection, reliability analysis, transmission and distribution automation, and electric market optimization.
