Title: New Design of Electricity Market with High Wind Penetration
Speaker: Guangyuan Zhang , ECpE Graduate Student

Abstract: The high penetration of wind poses the increasing challenge to the future power market operation. The main impacts are two-fold: first, the wind energy will displace the conventional generation and degrade the power system control capability, second, the wind power is highly uncertain and variable which requires even more control capability from the conventional generation fleet. In this presentation, the stochastic unit commitment technique is first introduced to provide the flexibility for day-ahead power market operation. Then the frequency constrained economic dispatch problem is introduced to provide the sufficient frequency regulation reserve for maintaining the satisfactory frequency performance.
